11 games left, Seven with the Braves
If you’ve read any of my work this season then you know how optimistic I’ve been for this season. I’ve realized how good the Braves have been and how bad the Phillies have played in the second half of the season. But with 11 games left in the season, the Phillies are 5.5 games back from the Braves for first place in the NL East. I’ve written about this at least twice, my magic number for the Phillies to be behind when this 11 game stretch started was 3.5 games. This to me was extremely doable. However, not everything happens the way you want it. The one thing I am happy about it that the Phillies still have a chance.
The Phillies gained a game on the Braves last night.
They can still win the NL East.

Controlling their own destiny
"We control our own destiny from here on out."

Rhys Hoskins is absolutely right. With just 11 games left and seven games with the team that is in front of you, the Phillies control their own destiny. If they win, they get in. It really is that simple. The Phillies need to win six out of seven games against the Braves to end the season. Yes, I understand that this is asking a lot, but hey crazier things have happened.
The Braves snapped their four-game losing streak, reduced their magic number to six and ensured they will enter the four-game series against the Phillies with at least a 5.5 game lead.

The year of Philadelphia?
I know I’m not the first one to say this, but could this be the year of Philadelphia? The Eagles won the Super Bowl, Villanova won the tournament, the 76ers made the playoffs, could the Phillies be next? Look I’m not going to jump ahead and look like an idiot. I just want the Phillies to make a run at the division. I am not sitting here saying that the Phillies are going to win the World Series, but if this team does make the playoffs. Look for them to make a deep run into October, and they could be a sleeper for a World Series run.
