Now many people thought that Brett Brown’s job was on the line on Sunday night. Reports will floating around that if The Philadelphia 76ers lost game seven Brown would be fired. However, that was not the case as the next day the Sixers announced Brown will return next season. The question now is this the right move?
Is Brown the guy?
This is a tough question to answer. Do I think Brown is a championship caliber coach? No. But is he the best option available right now? Yes. Some people are very critical of brown. His lack or thereof regarding in-game adjustments, how he uses his rotation and handling of stars Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. But at the end of the day, it’s as simple as this. Brown has overseen the process for the last seven seasons. He’s taken this team from 10 wins to back to back 50 wins and playoff series wins the last two seasons. His overall coaching record is 178-314.
Run it back
You really can’t blame Brown for what happened. The Sixers were right there tied at 90 with four seconds left. Kawhi Leonard just simply hit an incredible shot.
The team battled back from down 3-2 and while yes you would have liked to see Philly in Milwaukee for game one tomorrow the team really came together. When you make in-season trades it can be tough to get players to gel and build chemistry. Brown kept everyone together and finished third in the East. Embiid has his coaches back.
Can the Sixers get over the hump
The Sixers front office has key decisions to make this offseason. Will Tobias Harris and Jimmy Butler will be back? Can they find a backup center and point guard. Whether they can remains to be seen. There is one thing that needs to be corrected though. When it comes to Simmons and Embiid that’s where Brown needs to step it up. For the Sixers to become a championship team Simmons has to develop a jumper or at least take them.
Embiid needs to be featured in the post more and less on the perimeter. There is always work to be done and if the Sixers are to take that next step they can’t get comfortable where they are. Brown will return whether Sixers fans love it or hate it. Do you agree? let us know below.
