Eagles play it safe

Foles to start Thursday vs the Falcons

Eagles play it safe go with Foles over Wentz

We are just five days away from the NFL season. The talk all offseason has been whether or not Carson Wentz will be ready in time to play vs the Falcons.

While Doug Pederson has handled this situation the best he can we finally received an answer. Its been officially announced that Nick Foles will open the season as the Eagles starter. The Eagles play it safe and the move makes sense down the road.

Whats the rush?

Wentz is still recovering from a torn ACL and LCL suffered in December of last year. He still has not been cleared for contact so the move makes sense. This situation exemplifies why the backup quarterback position is the most important. Wentz is the future no doubt but Foles is a Super Bowl MVP and knows what it takes to win in the league.

The team also kept Nate Sudfeld who had a very impressive preseason.  Foles is more than capable of holding down the fort until Wentz is ready. Foles led the Eagles to a 15-10 victory over the Falcons in the divisional round back in January.

Handle adversity

Repeating as Super Bowl champions is definitely not easy. The Eagles will open the season without their star quarterback, without their number one receiver and without one of the best players on the defense in Tim Jernigan. These injuries are tough but none are long term. The Eagles will have 10 days off between the Falcons game before their week two matchup vs the Bucs.

The Eagles activated Alshon Jeffery the PUP list and he should be ready in a few weeks. All the Eagles need to do is handle the adversity. Following the opening two games, the Eagles will then play host to the Colts followed by a week four matchup in Tennesse vs the Titans. Will the Eagles survive without Wentz?  let us know below
