Eagles run game

Eagles run game must be effective against the Jags

Eagles run game must capitalize in London

The Eagles run game has been inconsistent this year to say the least. Last year they had both Jay Ajayi and LeGarrette Blount to turn to in clutch moments. This year, however, it’s a little different. With Blount in Detroit and Ajayi on IR, the Eagles run game just hasnt been the same. With the trade deadline on Tuesday and with the Eagles bye week next week a lackluster showing against the Jags will certainly motivate Howie Roseman to make a move.

Now it has been reported that Roseman is doing all he can to get LeSean McCoy. Its also worth mentioning that Le’Veon Bell is still holding out. Either one would do at this point. Either way tomorrow the Eagles just have to roll with what they have.

High expectations

Now coming into the season the Jags were expected to be the team to beat in the AFC. With a dominate defense and if Bortles could do just enough the Jags certainly were thinking Super Bowl. However, things just havent materialized. After dominating the New England Patriots 30-21 and Bortles playing the best game of his career things have fallen apart. Losers of four of their last five games things arent looking good.

The same can be said about the Eagles. Not many expected a 3-4 start from the defending champs. Without Ajayi, the Eagles have just ignored the ground game and rely on Carson Wentz and that mentality won’t work forever.

Commit to the run

While the Jags have two of the best cornerbacks in the game their weakness is in their front seven. The Jags have the leagues top-ranked pass defense but the 25th ranked rush defense. The Eagles come into this game with the 21st ranked rush offense so something will have to give. Five of the Jags seven opponents this year have run for over 100 yards.

Now i know Corey Clement and Wendell Smallwood havent exactly dominated but they have been servicable.  While neither is a homerun hitter they can move the chains and thats what the Eagles need. Doug Pederson has to commit to the run tomorrow. The Eagles are 3-1 this season when they run for over 100 yards.

Football across the pond

Darren Sproles remains out and did not travel with the team. But a familiar face in Donnel Pumphrey has resigned with the team and maybe this time around can make some sort of impact.  I know the level of play is different in the backfield but if you believe in we all we got we all we need then tomorrow morning we have to hope that Josh Adams, Smallwood, and Clement are what we need.

If this is the best offensive line in football then tomorrow is a perfect time to make a statement and get the season back on track. Make life easier for Wentz somebody has to step up and deliver some impact plays from the backfield.
