Eagles Select South Dakota State Tight End Dallas Goedert

Everything you need to know about the pick!

Eagles Select TE Dallas Goedert with 49th overall Pick

The world champion Philadelphia Eagles made their first selection in the 2018 NFL draft Friday night a good one. With the 49th pick, the Eagles selected South Dakota State tight end, Dallas Goedert. The irony in this pick is that the Eagles traded one pick ahead of the Cowboys to select Dallas. Goedert will provide the Eagles with a nice downfield option to accompany Zach Ertz. Furthermore, to move up for this selection, the Eagles traded pick number 52 and 169 to Indianapolis in exchange for the pick number 49.

The Eagles Bring FCS To The NFL… Again!

Though he attended a small school the South Dakota native was one of the best in all of football. In 2016 Goedert finished as a finalist for the Walter Peyton Award which is awarded to the top player in FCS. Over the course of four seasons in South Dakota Goedert racked up 198 catches for 2988 yards and 21 touchdowns. During his 2016 season, he recorded 92 catches for 1293 yards and 11 touchdowns. The Jackrabbits star tight end finished his career as one of only three players in program history to post consecutive 1000 yard seasons. He finished fifth in school history with 21 touchdowns. Furthermore, Goedert ranks third in career receptions with 198 and fourth in career receiving yards with 2,988.

What Does Dallas Bring To This Philadelphia Team?

The Eagles are getting a great value pick. At 6’5 256 he possesses the size, and speed to be a dangerous downfield option. It’s fitting that his NFL comparison is none other than Zach Ertz. In the loss of Brent Celek and Trey Burton, the Eagles have done a great job of solidifying the unit. The team now has Ertz, Goedert and Richard Rodgers. Also Billy Brown is waiting in the wings. Furthermore, with this selection, the Eagles skill position players feature Alshon Jeffery, Zach Ertz, Nelson Agholor, Mike Wallace and Jay Ajayi. Welcome to Philadelphia South Dakota Take Tight End Dallas Goedert.
