Tonight the Philadelphia Eagles will be in sunny Jacksonville Florida to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars. Both teams come into the game 0-1. The Jaguars were shut out last week by the Baltimore Ravens 29-0. The Eagles suffered a 27-10 defeat at the hands of the Tennesse Titans. Tonight’s game will also be a chance to reunite with Super Bowl 52 MVP Nick Foles. However, it is expected that neither he or Carson Wentz will play. With that said ahead of tonight’s Eagles vs Jags game here are five players to watch for.
1. Marken Michel
The Brother of Patriots running back Sony Michel Marken Michel burst onto the scene last week. In what would be the only touchdown of the night Michel flew past Titans cornerback Adoree’ Jackson who will be a starting corner for the Titans and reeled in a dime from Nate Sudfeld to score.
Now before this play, I had no idea who this was. However, if you want to make a 53 man roster this is how you do it. Earlier this week Shelton Gibson cleared waivers and was placed on IR ending his season. With Mack Hollins still struggling to stay healthy Michel should see plenty of chances tonight to make plays.
2. Cody Kessler and Nate Thorson
Tonight is going to the Cody Kessler and Nate Thorson show. Sudfled broke his non-throwing wrist and is expected to be out for six weeks. Now Sudfeld looked solid last weel completing 10 of 18 passes for 177 yards and one touchdown. Kessler and Thorson, however, did not. The two combined to complete 5 out of 15 passes for 19 yards and one interception. As a result, with Sudfeld out one of these two will be the backup quarterback week one. Kessler started four games last year for the Jags as he will look to get some revenge on his former team. Thorson will look to shake off the jitters of his first NFL game and prove why he was a fifth-round pick.
3. Daeshon Hall
Hall was everywhere last week. He finished with six tackles and one sack. The third-year player from Texas A&M turned in a very impressive game and will look to carve out a roll in a deep Eagles rotation. Furthermore, the 6 tackles were tied for second and on the team.
Hall was a third-round pick of the Carolina Panthers back in 2017 and has also spent time with the Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers.
4. Johnathan Cyprien
There is no doubt Cyprien will be motivated for this one. Cyprien was drafted by the Jaguars and spent the first four years of his career there. Signed a few weeks ago Cyprien turned in a solid showing last week recording four tackles. He has also been involved in some practice scrums with rookie Andre Dillard.
Cyprien will look to have another solid showing and he looks to earn a role in the Eagles secondary.
5. Matt Pryor
Pryor had an up and down game against the Titans. He did, however, battle throughout the game and he showed some good things on tape. Dillard was fantastic and looks like a sure-fire pick. Big V has been in trade talks as a lot of NFL teams are looking to add a tackle.
Pryor will again see a lot of playing time tonight and with a good showing could line himself up to be one of the top depth options along the line.
Eagles vs Jags
Tonights Eagles vs Jags game kicks off at 7 pm. The Eagles will look to pick up their first win of the pre-season. Furthermore, who are you looking forward to seeing tonight?
