EAGLES FOOTBALL IS BACK!! The day we’ve been waiting for since January 13th. Now yes I know it’s just preseason but Football is Football. Now, to tonight’s game. The Philadelphia Eagles face off with the Tennessee Titans. Now we aren’t going to get into last seasons matchup (What’s up Corey Graham). But what we are going to do is look at five players to watch from tonight’s Eagles vs Titans matchup.
1. Nate Sudfeld
Sudfeld enters the preseason as the team’s backup quarterback. However, there have been reports that throughout training camp he has been less than stellar. These games will be extremely important for the California native. Last year there was no pressure at all on Sudfeld as Nick Foles was the clear cut backup.
This season if Sudfeld underperforms perhaps it opens the door for Cody Kessler or maybe the Eagles look to free agency to find a suitable backup. As we’ve seen in recent memory backup quarterback is one of the most important positions.
2. Miles Sanders and the rest of the running backs
Sanders is the main focus of the group however there are other players that will be looking for a roster spot. Now, of course, we won’t see much of if any Darren Sproles. We also shouldn’t see much of Jordan Howard. Second-round pick Sanders has looked great in training camp and it will be exciting to get our first look at the former Penn State running back as he is the future at the position.
As for the rest of the backs they are fighting for their lives to make the roster. In theory, Corey Clement should be safe but he took a step back last season. Donnel Pumphrey is finally healthy and will look to prove that he belongs in the NFL. Boston Scott was on the team last year and has impressed so far throughout the offseason. Josh Adams had some nice moments last year but didn’t fully take advantage of the opportunity. That leaves us with everyone’s favorite Wendell Smallwood. Smallwood manages to somehow make the roster each season but this year will be tougher.
3. Sidney Jones
Jones has the most to prove out of all the corners. Finally healthy he is looking to get his career on track. Jones before the injury was viewed as one of if not the top corner in his draft class. He has a very real chance to open the season as a starting corner.
Just staying on the field and being healthy will put Jones in a position to open the season as a starter and be the future at the position that the Eagles envisioned him being.
4. JJ Arega-Whiteside
Arcega-Whiteside is somebody I’m very excited to watch. At 6’3 he is going to be an elite red-zone option for Carson Wentz. He also could be starting in a few years. Just toss it up and let the big man go get it.
Whiteside as of now is the fourth wide receiver but could see his role expand as he continues to impress.
5. Josh Sweat
Sweat is somebody many Eagles fans are excited about.
Injuries caused him to fall in the draft but now healthy Sweat is looking to become a dangerous part of the Eagles defensive line rotation.
Eagles vs Titans
Tonight’s game kicks off at 7:30 from Lincoln Financial Field. We will see which players take that next step to either improving their depth chart positioning or making the roster. Who are you excited to see play tonight?
