Former Chiefs running back would be a perfect fit for Eagles
Former Chiefs running back Charcandrick West would be a nice addition for the Super Bowl champs. On Wednesday Kansas City released the 27-year-old back. West had missed the Chiefs first two preseason games due to a concussion. Now a free agent one of the teams who should be calling is the Eagles.
Eagles turn their attention West
As the Eagles prepare for their third preseason game against the Browns there are some questions. The running back position has been a disappointing one to this point. Now we know Jay Ajayi, Darren Sproles, and Corey Clement are locked into roster spots. In addition to them Donnel Pumphrey, Matt Jones, Wendell Smallwood and Josh Adams were expected to battle for that fourth spot. Unfortunately, Pumphrey has failed to play so far. Jones and Smallwood haven’t impressed and Adams who looked good in the first preseason game missed last week due to injury.

Jones chances of making the roster appear slim to none. Smallwood has just failed to make enough plays and even though Adams has potential he might not have enough to make the final roster. This is where West comes in. Now while he has not played so far this preseason he could come in and provide a nice veteran presence. He also is familiar with Doug Pederson as his best season came when Pederson was the offensive coordinator. The 5’10 205 pound Louisiana native would immediately solidify the position.
Needed Veteran presence
West is a versatile back that can feature in both the Ground and passing game. Back in 2015 West led the Chiefs in rushing with 634 yards and four rushing touchdowns. He also provided 214 receiving yards. At the time the former Abilene Christian standout formed a formidable one-two punch with Spencer Ware. West could certainly find a role in Philly and would be a nice insurance should there be injuries.
Putting the pieces together
In a crowded Chiefs backfield West faded away. However, once he is healthy he will be worth a look. Still, just 27 the Eagles would be gaining a veteran back capable of making plays. Last year the Eagles added Ajayi mid-season and he provided a spark to the team.

While it appears Adams has the lead on the fourth running back spot the team could opt to sign a veteran. Coach Pederson knows exactly what he would be gaining in West and that would only solidify what is already a solid unit.
Eagles vs Browns
The former Chiefs back could be an Eagle sooner rather than later. Keep an eye on the Eagles running backs as they take on the Browns. If none of the backs can impress the Eagles should look to sign West.
