Kipers mock draft 3.0
We are now officially less than one month away from the 2019 NFL draft. One of the most exciting times of the year. As players are now hitting their pro days it’s that last chance to move up draft boards. Also, with Free Agency all but over teams are now shaping their draft boards. Mel Kipers, mock draft 3.0 was released this morning. So without further ado, let’s get to it.
Eagles add to their secondary
At pick number 25 Kiper has the Eagles selecting Mississippi State safety Johnathan Abram.
Now, this pick makes a lot more sense than a cornerback. Despite signing Andrew Sendejo the Eagles could use depth at the safety position. Being that Sendejo is only here for a year, Rodney McLeod is a free agent next year and with Malcolm Jenkins getting older Abram could be the future for the Eagles on the back end.
Hard hitting Abram
Abram like McLeod is a hard hitter. In 2018 he was named a second-team All-American. A third-team All-American and
Furthermore, The 5’11 safety has spent three years in the SEC as a bulldog with two at Mississippi State and one at Georgia. At the combine, he ran a 4.45, had a 33 inch vertical and performed well in the drills.
Is this the right pick?
This seems like a Howie Roseman type of pick. Everyone wants the running back but I could see Howie going elsewhere. When asked about why Abram is the pick at 25 Kiper stated “I love his tape and believes he is one of the best 20-25 players in the draft” He went on to say he doesn’t view Nassir Adderly as a first-round pick and believes that Abram can be a pro bowl safety.
With Josh Jacobs off the board in this scenario as he was selected at 24 to the Oakland Raiders if things were to play out this way, I could see the Eagles either trading back or taking a chance on Adderly. However, in this position, if selected Abram wouldn’t have to start right away and would have time to work himself into the system.
What will Roseman do next month?
At the end of the day, I believe Jacobs is the target. S
