The Eagles are in a situation that seems too good to be true. Facing an 0-3 New York Jets team with a rookie quarterback making just his second career start. The Eagles enter as 14 point favorites. Online gambling on sports should be all over this matchup. Especially the Eagles defense who should be able to turn in a big day in real life and in DFS. However, the Eagles have just five active cornerbacks. Three of which weren’t even on the roster last week. With that said the Eagles defense aims to get back on track and here’s how they can.
Create obvious passing situations
This will be Luke Falk’s second career start and third career game. He filled in for the injured Trevor Siemian in the Jets 23-3 loss to the Cleveland Browns. He then started in Foxboro against the vaunted New England Patriots and lost 30-14. Neither of these appearances have gone well as the Jets have scored just three offensive points during this time.
Even though the Eagles defense has struggled to create turnovers (5) has allowed at least 24 points each week, and create sacks (3) this is a perfect time to get right. The Eagles offense has been clicking despite several drops. The Jets do have Le’Veon Bell but if the Eagles jump out to a big lead that will eliminate the threat of the run. This will give the birds a chance to really focus on getting to the QB and wreaking havoc.
Capitalize on opportunities
The Eagles have to capitalize on chances. Against Green Bay, the Eagles forced two timely turnovers against Aaron Rodgers. Despite the yards, they allowed the defense kept working and created and capitalized on each opportunity. The Patriots held Falk to just 98 yards passing and sacked Falk five times. Safety Deven McCourty was able to pick this pass off by Falk.
The Jets do have deep threat Robby Anderson but without Sam Darnold, it will be hard for the Jets to capitalize on his game-breaking speed.
The key to everything will be starting fast. The Eagles have trailed by double digits in every game this season. At home against a young quarterback with an inexperienced offensive line and injuries, this is a major opportunity. With Dallas, Minnesota and New England on the horizon, the Eagles defense aims to get things rolling. Get healthy and get a big win will help the Eagles as they prepare to enter the most difficult part of their schedule. A team that has scored 11 offensive points in three games and is 31st in total offense this is a win that can’t get away.
