Phillies linked to Mariners Jean Segura
With the Philadelphia Phillies linked to almost every big free agent on the market. It is no surprise the organization is active to many trade rumors as well.
Once Cano-Diaz to #Mets is official, #Mariners have next deal lined up. Team is in serious talks on a trade that would send shortstop Jean Segura to Philadelphia, sources tell The Athletic. Segura holds full no-trade clause, and would need to approve the deal. H/t @agsnetworks.

Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic reports the Seattle Mariners to have a deal lined up to send shortstop Jean Segura to the city of brotherly love. Segura one of 16 players who hit .300 this past season has a full no-trade clause. In reality, Segura could decline any trade if he wanted to. Although with the recent moves the Mariners have made, Segura may decide to decide to leave the Jet City.
#Mariners have shown interest in shortstop J.P. Crawford as one piece from #Phillies in a possible deal for Jean Segura, sources tell The Athletic. Per @JSalisburyNBCS, PHI would still pursue Machado as a free agent (to play 3B) if they acquired Segura in a trade.

On the other hand, the Mariners seem to have interest in the one-time top prospect J.P. Crawford. It may be Crawford’s time on the main roster has not been what was anticipated. Conversely, Crawford only hit .214 with three home runs in 117 at-bats.
Although injuries crippled most of the young shortstops playing time, the Mariners would get a young shortstop at the age of 23 with a decent amount of upside.
Philly still to pursue Machado
As we all know the Phillies and all-star Manny Machado have been linked since last years trade deadline. If general manager Matt Klentak and the Phillies can pull off a trade for Segura and sign Machado; The fightin Phils would have a completely revamped left side of the infield. A very productive left side of the infield at that.
Segura and Machado combined for 366 hits, 175 run, and 170 RBI. Coupled with slugger Rhys Hoskins the Phillies would have a dangerous and electrifying middle of the order. In contrast, here is a potential opening day lineup skipper Gabe Kapler could set:
- Jean Segura SS
- Cesar Hernandez 2B
- Manny Machado 3B
- Bryce Harper RF
- Rhys Hoskins 1B
- Odubel Herrera CF
- Jorge Alfaro C
- Nick Williams LF
Time will tell what moves will ultimately take place. Of course, we here at ProSportsNotes will keep you up to date as the story continues to develop.
