I was sitting on the couch last night and I couldn’t decide what I wanted to do. There wasn’t anything good on TV and I realized all I wanted to do was watch baseball. But there was obviously a problem, its December. This made me miss baseball even more than I did before. Then I realized its only 53 days until pitchers and catchers report to spring training.
Don’t get me wrong, the off-season is a lot of fun when the stove is hot. That is just not the case right now. Well, the stove was hot for about a week but it has since cooled down exponentially. Since the stove has cooled down, I will be eagerly counting down the days until spring training.
Clearwater, Florida, the spring training home of the Phillies
Clearwater is the spring training home of the Phillies. If you haven’t had the chance to get down to spring training, I highly recommend it not only for the Phillies but whatever team you have a chance to see. I’ve been fortunate to go once with my family. Fans are able to watch practice (both batting and fielding), players warming up, and interactions between players and coaches. Things that normally you wouldn’t see at a normal game.
During my trip to Clearwater in 2010, my dad and I actually had a full conversation with Ryan Howard. We talked about what size bat and glove he used. The coolest part was not the actual answer, but rather the fact that he didn’t hesitate to talk with us. When you go down to spring training, you go for the experience that you cannot get anywhere else. I highly recommend everyone to try and go at least once.
It’s so close, yet so far away
This article was a nice easy way for me to express how much I am looking forward to baseball being back. I’m sick of sitting here and reading about how Manny Machado went to dinner with the Phillies’ front office or how Bryce Harper liked Rhys Hoskins’ Instagram photo. Spring training is less than two months away, and there is so much still left to happen. Harper and Machado will sign massive free agent deals and help make a team a contender.
All I’m trying to do is make these 53 days go by faster by giving you guys something to read and think about. Hopefully it’s working. So I’ll leave you guys with this, if you get the chance to go to spring training, go. You will have an experience unlike any other. Take a deep breathe, spring training will be here before you know it. 53….52….51….50. Let’s take one day at a time, and soon enough baseball will be back.
