Dexter Lawrence

  • First edition Eagles mock draft The 2019 NFL draft is next month from April 25th-27th live from Nashville Tennessee. The Eagles will have eight picks. As a result of the teams, late playoff run the Birds will pick 25th overall. Now there are several options that the Eagles can choose from here. Spoiler alert I don’t have the Eagles selecting a cornerback in the first round. So without further ado, let’s get going with this Eagles mock draft. Round 1 Pick 25: Dexter Lawrence The Eagles chose not to pick up Tim Jernigan’s 11 million dollar option and he will become a free agent. Now, this draft is loaded along the defensive line. With their first pick, the Birds go with the 6’4 350-pound defensive tackle to replace Jernigan. Lawrence finished his career with 162 tackles 20 for a loss and 11 sacks. Despite suffering an injury at the combine Lawrence is okay and would be the new big man in town. He comes in as a depth addition behind Fletcher Cox and Malik Jackson. Round 2 pick 53: David Montgomery After addressing the defensive side of the ball in round one here in round two the Eagles go offense and select Iowa States David Montgomery. Montgomery was a force for the Cyclones helping them to an 8-5 record. He finished last season with 1,216 yards and 13 touchdowns. Montgomery also has met with the Eagles at the NFL Combine. While there is talk of the Eagles getting Le’Veon Bell or Tevin Coleman I believe if they miss out on the former Steelers running back it is a position they must address early. If the Eagles acquire either Duke Johnson or Coleman, Montgomery would provide a nice change of pace back with some power. Hence he can be the starting...
  • Run stuffer Dexter Lawrence Clemson run stuffer Dexter Lawrence is a big man. At 6’4 350 he is a true clogger in the middle. Defensive tackle is a position that the Eagles could upgrade. Especially if Tim Jernigan leaves in Free Agency. Recently Miami Defensive tackle Gerald Willis was profiled and while he is smaller he certainly is a good option and could be a day one starter as well. With that said just how would Lawrence fit with the Eagles? Anchoring the Tigers defense Lawrence has been producing since the moment he got to Clemson. His freshman year he played 15 games and recorded seven sacks which is a Clemson freshman record. In addition to his 79 tackles, those numbers earned Lawrence ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2016. That year culminated with Clemson defeating Alabama 35-31 in the National Title game. The North Carolina native finished his career with 162 tackles, 20 for loss and 11 sacks. In 2018 he would be named First-Team All-ACC. With the Help of Lawrence Clemson would make the College Football playoff all three years he was there. Consequently, he was suspended for the 2019 Playoff due to failing a drug test. Eagles D-Line needs Defensive line is a position that the Eagles would love to upgrade. Hence from the edge rushers to the defensive tackles, you can never have enough depth. Jernigan played just 45 snaps last season last year. Furthermore, he is due 11 million dollars this offseason and while the team will try to work something out if not that opens up a starting spot. Whether Jernigan stays or goes drafting Lawrence lands the Eagles with a solid replacement. A man at 350 pounds is hard to move in the middle no matter how you cut it. With...
